Web Design (Editorial)

This person will design new editorial and application areas of New York Times digital products, including NYTimes.com, mobile properties and applications for alternative platforms. He or she will enhance existing features and functionality as well as develop new digital products from scratch. A strong competency in information architecture/interaction design and creating superior user interface designs are a must. Experience in high-volume Web-based publishing is a plus. The position will also include design documentation, producing isolated instances of code and general collaboration in the design process.



Primary Responsibilities



Design user interfaces and produce graphics for editorial and application areas throughout NYTimes.com



Work collaboratively with design colleagues (e.g., information architects, design technologists, other Web designers) and stakeholders (product managers, product managers, editors, technologists) to shape user experiences for new Times-based digital products



Produce isolated instances of client-side code as necessary



Secondary Responsibilities



Preparing information architecture deliverables, including wire-framing, site maps, use case scenarios and other interaction design activities



Support Design Director and management staff on a variety of additional projects and troubleshooting



Routine presentations to stakeholders



Required Qualifications



Exceptional level of facility with the principles of visual design, layout, typography, art direction, usability and interaction



Exceptional level of personal organization and attention to detail, creativity, conscientiousness, entrepreneurship



Familiar with HTML, XHTML, CSS, Web standards-based design, RSS



Advanced familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Flash



Passionate about interactive design and all things Internet
